Lagritz's long and arduous journey had been, for the most part, unfruitful. Nobody in his home village had seemed to have any good ideas about how to contact human royalty of any sort. Nor did they seem to care that Korin had been kidnapped. Lagritz didn't really blame them either.
The only bright part of his trip home (literally) was that he learned a new word of the ancient language while he was there. The word was light. He had had a fun time on his trip back to Teirm thinking up new and useful ways to use this word, both by itself and in combination with the other words he knew.
Now he sat in a clearing, near the spot where he had left his human acquaintances three weeks ago. He was not sure if they would show up again, but he would wait a few days before moving on. It is not like he was in a rush to get anywhere, anyhow.

((I find it hard not to mod Rashid a little in this post. He is my character so I hope it doesn't matter much.))
Nilaya was having an interesting time traveling with her new squirming companion Rashid. Half the time he wanted her to carry him. He other half he walked by her side taking an interest in everything he saw. He was still pretty small, though she knew he'd be getting larger. She had to wonder what Lagritz and Berl would think of her, arriving back at the clearing with Rashid.
She was about to find out. Lagritz waited as she entered the clearing and this was one of those times where Rashid had wanted to walk so he started moving a little more quickly, curious about the urgal and recognizing it from her memories.
"Rashid, you may know about him but he doesn't know about you." She followed after the violet dragon and into the clearing. "Hello again Lagritz. I had a rather.... interesting trip." The dragon now staring up at Lagritz from her side was only part of the story, the rest of it wasn't quite as good.

The dragon Rashid was rather content with his Rider, though he wasn't entirely sure she understood what she was yet. He remembered this Berl character from her memory mentioning a rider for a mother though, so probably he could explain it to her if she didn't.
He spotted the urgal in the clearing and wanted to see it closer, but Nilaya's words stopped him. You are correct. It would be best if I stayed with you so you could explain me. He contented himself with sticking by her side. When they reached the urgal she spoke and he considered touching the urgal's mind, but decided to wait. He just remained staring up from his currently small height.

Lagritz looked up at the sound of Nilaya's voice. He was surprised he still recognized it. Then he noticed the purple lizard by her side and he had to do a double-take. Was that a... No it couldn't be.
He had to ask. "Is that a dragon?" he said, pointing to the small reptile. Lagritz had never seen a real dragon before, only crude drawings. Whatever the creature was, it seemed to be friendly towards Nilaya, so he doubted it would be their supper for the night.

Nilaya saw the reaction and was glad Rashid had stayed with her. Lagritz seemed surprised by the appearance of him. "Yes, Rashid is a dragon." She answered, "I found him on my trip, well I found his egg anyways. He hatched a little later."
She gestured at him, not consciously thinking about the hand she used. Rashid was on her left side so that hand was natural for the gesture, but it revealed the palm to Lagritz. The silver white mark was obvious against her darker skin. She was beginning to realize what it meant for her, how much it changed things.

Aroara lay curled up around Berl's neck. It was her favorite place to travel, and she would be very sad when she grew too big for it. Berl had said they were traveling to meet with friends. He'd also mentioned a human boy who'd been kidnapped and how, somehow, because of this boy, the humans could be on the brink of war. Naturally, being no larger than a regular lizard, she couldn't do very much about it.
She lifted her head suddenly. Was that another dragon she was sensing? It couldn't be... Berl had also said that almost her entire species was wiped out by the Forsworn.

They were almost to the clearing. Berl couldn't wait for them to see what lay curled up around his neck. He could just imagine Nilaya's face... he couldn't remember if he'd told her that his mother had been a Rider. And hnow he was one as well.
Suddenly, Aroara lifted her head excitedly. Her claws dug into his skin. "What is it?" he asked.

I think I may be sensing another dragon! she said excitedly. You were wrong when you said we were all dead! She clambered onto Berl's head, trying to get a better view of her surroundings. Someday, she'd be biger, and should be able to simply launch herself into the air and go searching for this dragon, but for now, the top of Berl's head would have to do.
All she could see, however, were more trees. Even as her mind was shouting to her and she kept seeing imaginary flashes of purple, there was nothing. But then Berl walked into a clearing and she saw it.
Another dragon! Much bigger than she was. He must have hatched before she did.

Blue. He kept seeing flashes of blue as he sensed something. It wasn't the mind of Nilaya or of the urgal in the clearing with them it was.... A dragon! I sense another dragon! His voice was excited within Nilaya's mind. He glanced around, searching for it.
He heard the noise from the clearing and glanced over as the male he recognized from Nilaya's memory entered. The dragon was on top of his head, rather smaller than Rashid which meant it she was probably younger. The scales were blue, which explained the color. Your friend seems to take after his mother.

A dragon! I sense another dragon! Rashid's voice came excitedly to her mind. A dragon? Nilaya had thought they were all but wiped out before finding Rashid. Now there was the possibility of there being two dragons still in Alagaesia. Are you sure Rashid?
She heard it after he did, the sounds of branches being moved out of the way and twigs snapping so that someone could enter the clearing the three were in. Berl, with a blue lizard on his head, the second dragon. Rashid was right. She couldn't respond to his comment though, only stare at the dragon in surprise. Two dragons? If that's not a sign to keep trying nothing is.

Berl wasn't quite sure how to react when he saw the purple dragon. Aroara was certainly ecstatic, and he wasn't displeased, but it was the last thing he'd expected. That was something that hadn't happened to him since he was two. But hey, another dragon had to be good.
And since his mother had always told him that urgals and dwarves couldn't be dragon riders, that had to mean the second dragon rider was Nilaya. "You too?" he said. "Where'd you find your dragon?" He smiled at her expression upon seeing the dragon riding his head. He jerked his thumb at Aroara.
"She doesn't seem to understand that I'm the rider and she's the dragon."

Aroara took a swipe at his forehead for that remark, not cutting too deep, but enough to draw a little blood. Just you wait until I'm all grown up, she told him. Try making witty comments like that then!
Of course, she wouldn't actually hurt him. He was her rider, after all. She might just bloody him a bit. Not too much, though.

Lagritz was completely taken aback. One moment he had thought there were no dragon riders left in the land, and the next moment he was standing in the presence of two. The weight of fate pressed down hard on his shoulders.
What should he do now? What was an urgal supposed to do in the presence of a dragon rider? He couldn't think of a good answer to that question, so he just said, "This is unbelievable." Then he sat down, bewildered.

She smiled at the comment and when the dragon batted Berl's head. Obviously she'd missed something that had been said. "I found Rashid's egg in an abandoned nest in a cave in the mountains. I guess the Forsworn never found it. Where was yours?"
She heard Lagritz's comment then and turned to him. "Yes, it is. There were no dragons, no riders left in Alagaesia and now there's two. Not only that, but you know both of them. I can't say I ever expected to be a rider...." Rashid snorted at that. "I know Rashid, you pick the rider not the other way around."

Rashid waited, trying to decide when to do something. He was listening to Nilaya and interrupted her. Dragon chooses the rider... and she interrupted him in turn. Right.
With this he decided he wanted a closer view of the other dragon and started trying to climb his way up Nilaya's side. She picked him up, though he was heavy to be held higher than in her arms. He tilted his head and reached toward the other dragon's mind. Hello?
