"I... I got the egg from my mother's will," Berl said. "In Ceunon, from a guy called the Righteous Knave." He chuckled to himself, remembering that meeting.
He felt the other dragon's mind questing out toward Aroara. Try not to hurt him, Aroara. He doesn't know you yet.

Aroara was about to answer to the other dragon, but then Berl made his comment. Berl, I will remember every single one of these comments. They will stick in my mind, for when I am grown. Then she turned her attention to the other dragon.
Hello, she said. I am Aroara. Who are you?

Staring up at the dragon as he was he felt her mind connect to his and heard her reply. I am Rashid, he replied. Interesting to note both sets of rider and dragon were opposite gender pairs. Or so Nilaya seemed to think.
Did your rider tell you the dragons had been wiped out too? he asked. Mine did. If yours did too it would tend to indicate they were telling the truth as far as they knew. We seem to be the only ones seen in years.

The Righteous Knave? I better remember that one, Lagritz thought to himself. This meeting had fate and destiny written all over it. Normally Lagritz didn't really believe in that sort of thing, but their current situation was a bit too grand to ignore.
Then a hint of an emotion touched Lagritz, and he wasn't sure what it was at first. Then he realized, it was a touch of jealousy. These two people were now paired with dragons while Lagritz remained by himself. He brushed the feeling aside, knowing there was nothing he could do about it. Urgals didn't become dragon riders.
"So what do we do now? Are we still going to try and contact someone to help with the kid-stealing? I'm sure anyone would listen to what you have to say now, but would you want to risk exposing yourselves as dragon riders?"
